D. SANCHO I "o Povoador" 1185 - 1211

Son of D. Afonso Henriques. The second king of Portugal, nicknamed "the Colonizer" because he paid special attention to the population of the land, D. Sancho I, followed his father's footsteps as a conquerer. He was born in Coimbra in 1154. He re-conquered, started new villages, received foreign settlers and gave land to the clergy.
Filho de D. Afonso Henriques. O segundo rei de Portugal, D. Sancho I, teve o cognome de "o Povoador" porque prestou atenção especial ao povoamento das terras. D. Sancho I, continuou a conquistar como o seu pai tinha feito. Nasceu em Coimbra em 1154. Ele re-conquistou, deu início a povoamentos novos, entregou terras a colonos estrangeiros, para cultivarem e defenderem. Doou terras a várias ordens regiliosas.
