WINDOWS XP Tips - APPEARANCE


This list provides tips on how to change the way your WINDOWS XP looks and feels. You will enjoy experimenting!

 TIPS ON WINDOWS XP APPEARANCE

Classic Look

 

If you prefer the old Windows look, right-click on the Start button and select Classic Start menu. To make everything change to the old style, right-click on a n empty space anywhere on your desktop, select Properties, then Appearance and lastly under Windows and Buttons select Windows Classic Style.

Mouse Pointer
 

If you wish to change the mouse pointer, got to the Control Panel (Start button), select Mouse then the Pointers tab. Select a new Scheme and customise

Themes

 

You will find great Windows XP themes, including celebrity wallpaper at www.themexp.org.

Taskbar Icons
 

To move icons from the Desktop to the Taskbar, right-click the Taskbar, select Toolbars then Desktop

Display Icons

 

To select which icons to display on the taskbar, right-click the Taskbar, select Properties, check Hide Inactive Icons and click on Customize to chose which icons to display

Icon Size
 

To change the size of the icons on your desktop and also the font, right-click on a blank space of your desktop, select Properties, then Appearance, then the Advanced button. Next, select Icon from the drop-down list and change the size and font to your liking

Change Icons

 

If you do not like the shortcut icons on the desktop you can change them by right-clicking the icon, select Properties, then Change Icon. then select Browse and navigate to "c:\windows\system\pifmgr.dll" OR "c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll" where you will find a large selection of icons to chose from

Folder Types
 

Customise your folders by right-clicking on the folder, select Customise this Folder and select the Customize tab. Under What Kind of Folder do you Want, make your selection. For example, you will be able to use Play All to play music tracks from the folder if you select Music

Start Picture

 

To change the picture on your Start Menu, click the Start button, Control Panel then User Accounts (double-click). Select your account and make the changes you want, picture, password, etc.

Icon Size
 

To change the appearance of buttons, menus and more, click the Start button, Control Panel then select System (double-click). Select the Advanced tab, then under Performance select Settings. Make your changes

Command Colour

 

To change the colour of thye Command Prompt Window, click on the icon in the top left corner, choose Properties and select the colour tab.

Remove XP Logo Boot
 

To remove the Windows XP logo when booting, run msconfig, select the BOOT.INI tab and check /NOGUIBOOT
