This is a new province which was born after the 1994 elections. Its main source of income is mining. It is very rich in minerals and has the largest diamond deposits in the country.

It houses various game reserves and is a major player as far as food production is concerned. You will find one of the world's largest natural ecosystems and the Karoo is known for its rich botanical properties.
